Turkey, Iran play pivotal role in settling Syria crisis: Turkish lawmaker

New York, March 30, IRNA – A member of Turkish Parliament said here Friday that Iran and Turkey play a pivotal role in settling crisis in Syria and preventing the spread of religious tensions in the region. Speaking to IRNA, Yusuf Ziya Irbec made the remarks at the United Nations headquarters in New York. Voicing his concerns over consequences of Syrian civil war, he said Tehran and Ankara may have different views regarding certain world or regional developments but that would not undermine their cordial relations. Both, Iran and Turkey shoulder a heavy responsibility to safeguard current level of their bilateral relations, Irbec said, noting that they are determined to prevent the spread of regional tensions. On unique situation of both Turkey and Iran in the Islamic world, he called on the two neighboring states to take strides in preventing the spread of religious tensions in the region.
