Turkey never had an sectarian approach in region, says FM Davutoglu

ANKARA (A.A) - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Thursday that Turkey never had an ethnic or sectarian approach in its region. Speaking at a joint press conference with Iraq's Islamic Supreme Council President Ammar al-Hakim in Turkish capital of Ankara, Davutoglu said that the establishment of a new and strong Iraq by the Sunnis, Shiites, Christians, Arabs, Kurds and Turkmens would be the messenger of great days to come for the whole region. Al-Hakim comes from an intellectual tradition and his family has given many martyrs in the fight for freedom in Iraq, Davutoglu said. At a critical time in Iraq, holding talks with al-Hakim in Ankara was highly important for us, Davutoglu noted. We share the same vision with al-Hakim on the process of change in Iraq, Davutoglu underlined. Al-Hakim and we agree that all sides involved must give shoulder to shoulder so that there is no ethnic or sectarian polarization in the region, Davutoglu stressed. Iraq's success is the success of the whole region, Davutoglu said. Iraq will overcome these difficult days thanks to intellectuals like al-Hakim, Davutoglu emphasized.
