Turkey shows interest in Russian air defense systems - Rosoboronexport

ISTANBUL, May 6. /TASS/. Turkey is showing interest in Russian air defense systems, Russia’s state arms exporter Rosoboronexport Deputy Head Sergei Goreslavsky said at the IDEF-2015 arms exhibition on Wednesday. The Turkish defense minister has already visited the Russian exposition at the IDEF-2015 arms show in Istanbul, ‘which by itself is the manifestation of attention," the Rosoboronexport official said. "He said that this country is ready for the continuation of cooperation in the sphere of technology transfer," Goreslavsky said. Rosoboronexport sees Turkey’s interest in various air defense missile systems, including the Antey-2500, the export version of the S-300 system, he said. The advanced version of the S-300 missile system has a range of over 150 kilometers (over 100 miles) and can intercept ballistic missiles and aircraft at low and high altitudes, making it effective in warding off air strikes. The S-300V/Antey 2500 (SA-12 Gladiator/Giant) consists of a new command vehicle, an array of advanced radars and up to six loader vehicles assigned to each launcher. Rosoboronexport also held a presentation of its Secure City complexes for Turkish police on Tuesday, Goreslavsky said. These systems were used, in particular, during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, he added. Rosoboronexport counts on "comprehensive development" of military and technical cooperation with Turkey, Goreslavsky said. "Probably, there is no other country with which we have cooperation as long as with Turkey," he said. Read more
