Turkey will assist in safe transportation of energy resources from Caspian region

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec.6 / Trend A. Tagiyeva / Nabucco project designed to diversify energy supplies to Europe will increase Turkey's role in the region and will turn the country into a bridge between energy producers and consumers, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz told journalists on Tuesday, the Sabah newspaper reported. "Turkey will assist in safe transportation of energy resources from the Caspian region and Central Asia to the European market," Yildiz said. Yıldız also said that company BOTAS, which also has a share in the Nabucco project will have huge profits from gas transit to Europe. Nabucco gas pipeline project with the length of 3,900 kilometers and a maximum capacity of 31 billion cubic meters per year is designed to deliver gas from the Caspian region and Middle East to the EU countries. Nabucco project is planned to start construction in 2013 and the first supplies will be commissioned in 2017. The South Corridor is a priority EU energy project diversifying energy supply routes and sources and increasing EU energy security. The Southern Corridor includes the Nabucco gas pipeline, TAP and ITGI (Turkey-Greece-Italy pipeline). The gas produced within the second phase of the Azerbaijani Shah Deniz Field is considered to be the main gas source for these projects. For export of the major part of 50 billion cubic meters of gas which Azerbaijan intends to produce by 2025, Baku and Ankara intend to build a new gas pipeline in the territory of Turkey. The participants of the project plan to address all issues relating to this gas pipeline in 2012 and start building it and complete it by late 2017 when implementation of the Shah Deniz Phase 2 is scheduled to start.
