Turkish Cypriot president meets UN executive

LEFKOSA (A.A) - Turkish Cypriot president met on Wednesday United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's special adviser on Cyprus. The meeting between President Dervis Eroglu of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Alexander Downer lasted about an hour. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Downer said Ban expected the two leaders (Eroglu and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias) to do everything they could to reach success in the Cyprus summit to take place in New York on November 22-24. Downer said he got the impression that Christofias would attend the upcoming summit in Greentree, New York when commenting on news stories that the Greek Cypriot leader decided not to go to New York as no progress had been made in ongoing Cyprus talks. The UN adviser said Ban expected the two parties to prepare well to the upcoming summit and do their best to reach success in the summit. Eroglu and Christofias will meet Downer over a dinner on Thursday.
