Turkish evacuation ship anchors off Crete

SAMSUN SHIP (A.A) - 24.02.2011 – Turkish ship "Samsun", which will evacuate Turks from Libya, anchored off Greek Crete island due to bad weather condition.
"Samsun" hoisted anchor from Istanbul's Sarayburnu earlier on Thursday to evacuate Turkish nationals from Libya where many people were killed in the uprising, however, it anchored off Crete due to bad weather condition.
The ship --belonging to Deniz Cruise Ferrylines Company-- is waiting for appropriate weather conditions to continue its route to Tripoli.
Besides food and health assistance of Turkish Red Crescent, the ship is carrying 39 personnel, five police officers, four passengers, one doctor, one nurse and two technicians as well as correspondents of Anadolu Agency.
According to unconfirmed reports, around 1,000 people have been killed in Libya since protests against Muammar Gaddafi's 42-year reign began last week.
7,062 Turks have been evacuated from Libya so far. There are nearly 25,000 Turkish nationals in that country.
