Turkish FM receives Syrian National Council head

ISTANBUL (A.A) - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu received Friday Syrian National Council Chairman Burhan Ghalioun in Istanbul. Speaking to reporters after a four-hour meeting, Ghalioun said no military official of the Free Syrian Army or of Turkey participated in the meeting. "We talked about humanitarian aid and political issues. We are planning to open an office in Turkey for coordination with Turkish officials not for a military cooperation," Ghalioun said.   The Syrian council head said the meeting discussed the situation and urgent needs of the people in Baba Amr after Syrian army's offensive in the district in the Homs city.  "Syrian people need urgent humanitarian help, they need food and medicine. And they have a great expectation from Turkey, Turkish people and Turkish government," Ghalioun said.      Ghalioun hailed recognition of the Syrian National Council by the European Union as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people. "This is a very positive development and I urge other international institutions to follow suit," he said.    Turkish diplomatic sources close to the meeting said that the Turkish foreign minister had reiterated Turkey's support for the Syrian people who took shelter at refugee camps in Turkey. "Our doors and our home will remain open to the Syrian people," sources quoted Davutoglu as telling Ghalioun.   Sources said the meeting also took up a prospective meeting in Istanbul of the Friends of Syria, a group of countries which seek an agreement on how to end violence in Syria.
