Turkish health experts hope Somalia will be face better days in future

MOGADISHU (A.A) - October 30, 2011 - Turkish health experts, who have worked under challenging conditions in Somalia, expressed hope on Sunday that Somalia would face better days in the future. Doctors and nurses, who worked under challenging conditions in a tent hospital in Mogadishu, Somalia and who then returned to Turkey, shared their views with Anadolu Agency (AA) team. "I hope Somalia will face better days in the future, and we will visit this country as a tourist," pediatrician Enver Erman told AA team.  Also speaking to AA team, another pediatrician, Yavuz Eristir said that they had a good experience in Somalia, and they tried to offer health service as best as they could. Nurse Fatma Can said there were many people in Somalia who were in need of help. "It was a challenging mission, however Somali people now knows more about Turkey and Turkish people," she said. Another nurse, Serap Dogan said they had faced children with insufficient nutrition and dehydration when they first arrived in Somalia but now the children were in a better condition. "We have accomplished a difficult task in Somalia under the shadow of bombs and guns, but we think we have met needs of people," health official Yavuz Demirbas also told AA.  Somalia is currently facing with one of the worst droughts in the past 60 years.   The epicenter of the drought lies on the three-way border shared by Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia, a nomadic region where families heavily depend on the health of their livestock. Uganda and Djibouti have also been hit by the disaster.   Tens of thousands of people have so far been displaced due to the humanitarian situation in the region.
