Turkish Press Review

ANKARA (A.A) - November 28, 2011 - Turkish dailies mostly covered in their Monday issues the Arab League's sanctions on Syria and an anti-terror rally held by Turks living in London. Commenting on the Arab League's sanctions on Syria, Hurriyet, Yeni Safak and Zaman dailies said that the Arab League imposed sanctions on Syria, including a ban on flights. Hurriyet daily quoted Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu as saying "the sanctions should not target the people of Syria. As Turkey, we support the process initiated by the Arab League". The Turkish dailies wrote that some of the sanctions imposed on Syria involved ending relations with the Syrian Central Bank, freezing Syrian assets overseas and stopping all investments in Syria. Zaman daily said that the Arab League's sanctions would also include a trade embargo involving all goods except basic food items. Covering an anti-terror rally held by Turks living in London at the weekend, Turkiye daily said that around 1,000 people joined the rally and cursed the PKK terror. The participants of the rally carried banners that read "Martyrs do not die", "Homeland can not be divided", and "Down with PKK". The rally began in front of the Turkish Embassy in London and ended at the British Prime Ministry. The participants of the rally were seen carrying Turkish flags in their hands.
