Turkish prime ministry sends aid to Somalia

ANKARA (A.A) – March 6, 2012 – Turkish Prime Ministry Disaster & Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) sent assistance to Somalia by a plane of Turkish Airlines (THY). AFAD sent the aid during the first flight of THY to Somalia on Tuesday. Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag, THY Director General Temel Kotil, and Turkish Cooperation & Coordination Agency Administration (TIKA) Chairman Serdar Cam were aboard the plane too. THY plane carried 15 tons of medicine, medical equipment and materials as well as humanitarian aid worth of 290,000 Turkish Lira to Somalia. AFAD, so far, sent 22,128 tons of humanitarian aid worth of 92.7 million TL by 16 planes and eight ships to Somalia.
