Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Mar.12 By Huseyn Hasanov– Trend: Turkmenistan and Iran actively participate in negotiations to determine the legal status of the Caspian Sea, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov said during the meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani, who was in Ashgabat March 10-11 on a state visit, said the report of the government of Turkmenistan March 12. “On the basis of the initiatives put forward by the two countries, a reliable legal base, governing relations between the Caspian states in various fields, is being formed,” said the Turkmen leader. He said that new forms of mutually beneficial cooperation in the Caspian region in the areas of security, emergency, economic and trade, transport and communication, the environment and other important spheres are developing, which leads to confidence-building between the coastal countries, creates favorable conditions for their mutually coordinated dialogue. Rouhani, for his part, said at the press conference that the multi-aspect cooperation on the Caspian Sea was a separate topic of the talks. “It is a sea of ​​peace, friendship and brotherhood between the Caspian states, and Iran wants to develop relations in this area through international legal mechanisms, both within the use of this sea’s resources, and in the area of shipping,” said Rouhani, according to Neutral Turkmenistan. Iran’s president, underscoring such a significance factor as the compliance with international environment norms, said the cooperation in environmental field is of great importance for both countries. The Caspian Sea washes the coasts of Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Iran and Turkmenistan.
