Two Public Security staff acquitted

Manama, Apr. 28 (BNA): The second instance of the Lower Criminal Court today acquitted two Public Security staff of assaulting the bodily integrity of others, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Deputy Chief Mohammed Khalid Al-Hazaa said. The Reformation and Rehabilitation Directorate notified the unit on November 19 about alleged aggression of inmates by a number of policemen. Based on the notification, two SIU members reported promptly to the directorate and heard the complainants. The SIU special coroner was commissioned to examine the inmates and report any wounds they might have sustained. The unit questioned the suspected policemen and remanded two of them in prison pending investigation before referring them to the court that acquitted them of the charges against them. Al-Hazaa said that the unit is scrutinizing the rationale behind the acquittal verdict and will then decide whether to challenge the court ruling
