Two Thai workers killed in Taiwan factory fire

BANGKOK, April 30 (TNA) – The Department of Employment (DOE) will rehabilitate families of two Thai workers, killed in the fire at a factory in Taiwan. DOE director-general Anurak Thosarat said he received the report of the tragedy from the Thai labour office in Taipei that the fire broke out at Chin Poon Industrial Co, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of the electric circuit boards on April 28. The blaze extended to the worker apartment zone, killing six workers. One worker was severely injured. Among the deaths are two Thai nationals, Panupong Sa-ngiem, 24 and Cherdsak Buramsungnoen, 42. Both workers worked legally in Taiwan and their families are entitled to receive 40,000 -baht compensation each from the labour fund and a maximum of 40,000 baht for funeral expense. Meanwhile, provincial labour offices visited their families in Chachoengsao and Buriram to inform them about death benefits. The director-general said he ordered Thai labour office in Taiwan to ensure compensation from the employer of the dead workers. (TNA)
