Two VN fishing boats, 21 fishermen arrested

BANGKOK, May 1 (TNA) - Two Vietnamese fishing trawlers were seized and 21 fishermen arrested Saturday night on charges of illegally fishing in the Thai territorial waters. The Vietnamese fishermen were apprehended by the Second Fleet of the Royal Thai Navy while they were illegally fishing off the southern coast in the Gulf of Thailand. Officials said the arrested Vietnamese fishermen were taken later to Songkhla navy base and were interrogated. Legal action will be taken against them and they will be sent back home. According to official statistics, a total of 47 Vietnamese fishing trawlers were seized and about 300 fishermen nabbed off the Thai southern coast since last October up till now. (TNA)
