Typhoon Rammasun remains affecting many Thai provinces

BUNG KAN, THAILAND, July 16 (TNA) - Impacts from Typhoon Rammasun have remained on many Thai provinces in the Northeast, while those in the South included heavy downpours and big waves. In the Thai Northeast, persistent downpours quickly raised the level of the Mekong River in Bung Kan Province. In Buri Ram Province, local authorities warned people of heavy downpours, flash floods, landslides and runoffs in four districts. In Sakon Nakhon, officials opened three sluice gates in the provincial center to accelerate drainage from the local Nong Han Lake into the Mekong River to prevent flooding in the Nong Han Community and local farmlands but the drainage was slow due to the high level of the river. In the South, a runoff hit restaurants and houses near the Krabi Yai Canal in Krabi Province late last night, while local people were warned of possible flash floods and runoffs over the next few days due to persistent downpours. In Trang Province, a seaside road in Koh Sukorn Sub-district of Palian District was damaged at about 10 locations, prompting local authorities to declare the sub-district a disaster-stricken area.
