UAE led by Khalifa responds to humanitarian crises, says Hamdan bin Zayed

ABU DHABI, 19th August, 2015 (WAM)--H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), has said the UAE, led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, plays a pivotal role to enhance responses to the humanitarian crises. He underscored that the UAE's commitment to its humanitarian responsibilities in line with its policy and international humanitarian policies as well. Sheikh Hamdan said in a statement on World's Humanitarian Day, which corresponds with Wednesday, 19th August each year, that the "UAE has become an important hub for international humanitarian work, thanks to the directives of the UAE President, Vice President and orders of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces." He reiterated the UAE's interest to boost the humanitarian efforts worldwide and adopt initiatives that make a difference in terms of humanitarian services to those in need. Sheikh Hamdan saluted the sacrifices made by the humanitarian staff and volunteers who had lost their lives, while on the humanitarian duties trying to rescue lives of others. World Humanitarian Day falls on 19 August, the day when, in 2003, 22 aid workers were killed in a bombing at the UN headquarters in Baghdad. It's a day to pay tribute to all people affected by humanitarian crises and those who lost their lives in humanitarian service.
