UAE's HAI provides aid worth Dh370,000 for Iraq's IDPs

Dubai, 28 January 2015 (WAM): The UAE's Human Appeal International (HAI) has provided Dh370,000 in infant formula, food and furniture for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Iraq to help them survive the cold wave that hit the region recently. Some 1420 displaced families, including 266 children under one year old, living in bad humanitarian conditions in1500 tents, benefited from the UAE humanitarian agency's two aid operations in Iraq. HAI's Assistant Secretary-General for Financial and Administrative Affairs, Abdullah Al Awadhi, said, "Following the directives of our wise governments to help people affected by the recent cold wave in the region, HAI is carrying out projects to help the displaced in Iraq." The much-needed mattresses, pillows and blankets were given out to the displaced in several Iraqi governorates, he said noting that special attention was given to women, children, the elderly and the disabled during the distribution of aid. The agency is trying to help as many displaced families as possible. HAI is also preparing to distribute more food, infant formula and mattresses to more displaced families, living in under-construction structures in Kirkuk Governorate in northern Iraq, because they could not afford house rents and were unable to get tents. – Emirates News Agency, WAM – http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395275695762.html
