UDD ends mass rally; To soon regroup again

BANGKOK, April 7 (TNA) - The pro-government United for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) movement has ended their mass rally in Bangkok’s neighbouring province of Nakhon Pathom, which was aimed at showing their political prowess and opposition to an appointment of interim prime minister. UDD leaders jointly announced the end of the three-day and two-night rally on their stage at about 7am Monday. Jatuporn Prompan, leader of UDD, said UDD leaders would discuss their next movement on Tuesday after Suthep Thaug-su-ban, Secretary-General of the anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), Sunday night accepted his challenge that each group mobilize its supporters to show the international community that which side has more followers. He said the next UDD rally would be bigger as it would be joined by people, who oppose the PDRC movement. The UDD has announced that their next rally will be on a day the Constitution Court rules on Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s allegedly unconstitutional transfer of National Security Council chief Tha-wil Plien-sri to an inactive post. The ruling date, however, has not been officially announced. The case could lead to an impeachment of the caretaker premier and her cabinet, which would pave a way for an appointment of an interim prime minister. Nattawut Saikuar, co-leader of UDD, said the three-day rally was successful in terms of quality and the number of participants. He said his side would always be a winner as it supports democracy, a political mechanism, which is internationally recognized. After the Red Shirt crowd left the rally site, civil worker of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration moved in to clean the site. Sniffer dogs were deployed to ensure no explosives were left there.
