UM Rises To 29th Place In QS University Ranking Asia 2015

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's University of Malaya (UM) continues its steady rise in Asia when it rose three places to 29th place in the QS University Rankings Asia 2015. UM Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mohd Amin Jalaludin said in a statement here Wednesday that it maintained its position as the top university in Malaysia for the seventh year running, driven by its performance in six key indicators - academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty students, citations per paper, inbound and outbound exchanges. He said he hoped the rise of UM's ranking in the QS University Rankings Asia was a good indicator of the university's performance in the world rankings. "Although UM has achieved good results in most of the indicators, we will strive to improve on areas which we need to improve further, namely, papers per faculty and international student enrolment. "UM has been putting emphasis in its strategic plan to strengthen the fundamentals of the university in the core areas of teaching and learning, research, innovations, publications and internationalisation," he said. Tuesday, Second Education Minister Idris Jusoh had announced the improvement of four Malaysian research universities in the 2015 QS Asian University Rankings as compared to last year. Besides UM, which jumped to 29th place from 32 last year, Universiti Sains Malaysia (University of Science, Malaysia) rose to 49 from 57. Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (University of Technology, Malaysia) was ranked 61st from its former position of 66 and Universiti Putra Malaysia (76 to 66). Mohd Amin said while UM continued to use the ranking results to improve its performance, UM's priority remained in providing quality higher education and contributing towards the nation-building process. -- BERNAMA
