UMS Signs MoUs With Three Foreign Institutions To Share Marine Science Expertise

KOTA KINABALU (Sabah), March 17 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Tuesday signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the three foreign institutions to share expertise in marine science and aquaculture research studies. The three institutions are the National Taiwan Ocean University (TOU) from Taiwan, Universitas Borneo Tarakan (UBT) from Kalimantan, Indonesia, and the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Centre, Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC AQD) from the Philippines. For the signing ceremony, UMS was represented by its vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mohd Harun Abdullah while NTOU was represented by its president Prof Chang Ching Fong, UBT by its rector Dr Bambang Widigdo, and SEAFDEC AQD by its chairman Dr Felix Ayson. "The year 2015, is the year for us (UMS) to expand our activities at the international level. That's beutiful because early into the year, we already have a pact with three overseas universities and institutions. "This is a good opportunity for us to cooperate with foreign universities, especially in the field of marine science and aquaculture," Mohd Harun told reporters after attending the opening ceremony of the International Conference on Marine Science and Aquaculture, organised by UMS here Tuesday. The three-day conference was officiated by the Sabah Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Sairin Karno, representing the Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah, who is also the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Yahya Hussin. -- BERNAMA
