UN chief calls for dialogue to bridge differences in Thailand

BANGKOK, February 5 (TNA) - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called for all parties concerned in Thailand to resolve their differences through dialogue for the best interest of the Thai people. Expressing his concerns that part of Thai eligible voters could not cast their ballots in last Sunday's general election due to a blockage by anti-government protesters, while recognizing the complexity of the political situation in Thailand, Ban underscored that any action undermining democratic processes cannot be condoned. According to Ban’s spokesperson, the UN chief has closely been following the updated situation in Thailand. The spokesperson said on Tuesday evening in New York (local time) that the UN Secretary General encouraged and stressed that all Thais and political leaders should move towards a political solution based on dialogue, compromise and respect for democratic principles.(TNA)
