UN, OIC Must Interfere In Yemen Conflict - NGO

ALOR SETAR (Kedah, Malaysia), March 30 (Bernama) -- The United Nations (UN) and Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) needed to take proactive steps to bring all the warring parties in Yemen back to the negotiating table. The Selangor and Federal Territories Jamiatul Khairiah Welfare Organisation chairman Syed Hussien Al-Habshee said all quarters in Yemen must end the bloodshed. "All the parties concerned must stop all violence and military operations and return to the negotating table immediately. Peace dialogues under the UN and OIC are the best way out for the conflict in Yemen," he told Bernama Monday. Syed Hussien, who is also former Malaysian envoy to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) said, without peace dialogues it was feared that the conflict in Yemen would spread and become a prolonged civil war. If the conflict in Yemen was allowed to be prolonged without any peace negotiations, it would affect efforts to maintain political stability in the Middle East, he said. He suggested that Wisma Putra (Malaysia's Foreign Ministry) played a role in finding peace solutions among the warring parties in the strife-torn country. -- BERNAMA
