UNCHR country office intends to implement several IDP-related projects in Azerbaijan

Baku, June 12, AZERTAC Country Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Furio De Angelis has revealed the organization`s plans to implement several projects relating to internally displaced persons in Azerbaijan, as he met with the country’s Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Rovshan Rzayev. He was accompanied by Regional Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the South Caucasus Johannes Van Der Klaauw. Furio de Angelis highlighted the organization’s recent evaluation mission to Jojug Marjanli village in Jabrayil region, saying that the Organization considerably contributes to addressing the issues arising after the return of internally displaced persons to their native lands. Rzayev said that Azerbaijan has done a lot to address the problems of refugees and IDPs in the country, adding that this issue has always been the focus of President Ilham Aliyev`s attention. He highlighted the large-scale social programs implemented on the initiative of First Vice-President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva. The chairman pointed out that the Order signed by President Ilham Aliyev in connection with the reconstruction of the liberated Jojug Marjanli was a landmark event. “Jojug Marjanli has become a symbol of the return of the Azerbaijani people to their ancestral lands. The restoration of this village testifies to the Azerbaijani people’s firm determination to return their occupied territories,” he said. Rovhshan Rzayev highlighted the UNCHR-initiated projects to address IDPs' problems in Azerbaijan. He commended the UNCHR country office for its long-term and sustainable role in addressing the social problems of refugees and IDPs in Azerbaijan.
