Underpass And Flyover To Solve Traffic Jams In Tambun

Bekasi, West Java, Oct 14 (Antara) - The Bekasi district administration said it is optimistic that "underpass" and "flyover" would greatly reduce traffic jams around the Tambun railway station. "We are discussing the underpass and flyover projects with the Public Works Ministry," head of the Bekasi district planning board Slamet Supriyadi said in Cikarang on Monday. Slamet said the underpass project will be the first to be implemented crossing Jalan Mangunjaya underground in Tambun. The Bekasi district administration will set aside Rp20 billion for land clearing near the project starting in 2014, he said. "The underpass would cross the road underground around Pasar Tambun which has been the point of congestion in the way to and from the Tambun railway station," he said. He said the central government has also studied plan to build a 1.5 kilometer long flyover in the same location in Tambun. After the underpass is finished , construction of the flyover project will follow, he added. Slamet said construction of the underpass and the flyover in Tambun is the right solution to end congestion in a number of points along the main road between Tambun and Cibitung. "If the gate of the railway crossing is closed just five minutes there would be traffic jams as long as 1 kilometers," he said. He said the district legislative assembly has approved the budget for land clearing for 2014 fiscal year.
