UNESCO center picks Iran’s “Song of the City” for Story Collection Project

TEHRAN,Aug.26(MNA) -- The Iranian story “The Song of the City” has been selected for the 2013 Story Collection Project, which has been organized by UNESCO’s Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU). “Ab Hara’s Dream” by Mariyam Nihaz from Maldives and “The Green Hope” by Arul Vadivelan Ponnusamy from Malaysia have also been selected for the project. Written by Borzu Saryazdi, “The Song of the City” is about a group of children who try to learn musical scores by colors, and plan to play a musical piece according to the colors of their city. The story has been translated into English by Iraj Esmaeilpur Quchani, Saryazdi said. Peace, cultural diversity, conflict resolution, world heritage awareness, human rights and literacy are some of the suggested themes for the project. APCEIU was established in 2000, in accordance with the International Year of Culture and Peace, under the auspices of UNESCO and is mandated to contribute to the development of Education for International Understanding (EIU) in Asia and the Pacific. APCEIU has found storytelling to be one of the most effective methods in educating children. The center uses stories to educate children about the cultural, ethnic and linguistic diversity of their own and other people.
