UNESCO, IJS Sign a Cooperation agreement To Promote Freedom Of Expression

BAGHDAD / NINA / UNESCO announced that it will sign with the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate on the occasion of the celebration of World Press Freedom Day on Sunday a cooperation agreement to promote freedom of expression and develop the media sector and the provision of access to information and knowledge in Iraq. A statement by the Information Office of UNESCO in Baghdad, said "under the framework of this agreement, the first concrete step will come towards strengthening this cooperation through a project for training media professionals, entitled " Strengthening the Iraqi Journalists capabilities in disputes press and the sensitivity of media coverage in times of conflict ", which will be funded by Iraqi Journalists Syndicate and implemented by UNESCO. The statement said, "The Third of May of each year is a date to celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom, evaluate press freedom in the world, protect the media from violate its independence, and honor the memory of journalists who lost their lives during exercising their work. The statement added, "UNESCO and the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate will celebrate this day in conjunction with the central global celebration entitled" Let press thrive best, Gender equality , and the safety of the media in the digital era. " The statement noted that the celebration will be held in the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate headquarters in Baghdad in ten o'clock am on Sunday in the presence of human rights activists, journalists and members of the international community./ End
