UNHCR aid airlifted to Tehran

Tehran, April 13, IRNA – United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) airlifted goods and emergency supplies to Iranian flood-stricken population. According to the UNHCR statement, the airplane carrying emergency supplies landed in the Iranian capital on Thursday (April 11.) The goods included blanket, mattress, kitchen set and suitcases for emrgency occasions for Iranian population affected in heavy rain and flooding in western Iran and southwest of the country. The flood claimed lives of over 70 Iranians, wounded over 1,000 and displaced about 280,000. The statement said the UNHCR is sending aid to Iran which is “Generously hosting close to 1 million refugees over four decades.” Currently, relief efforts have been made by Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and Army forces and volunteers who have joined them in the flood-hit areas. In related developments, UN special envoy Ugochi Daniels arrived in western Iranian province of Lorestan on April 10 to estimate the damages caused by flood. Follow us on Twitter @IrnaEnglish
