UNHCR helps build schools for refugees in central Iran

Tehran, Oct 16, IRNA – A school which has been built with the aid of the United Nations High Commissionaire for Refugees (UNHCR) was opened on Tuesday with the attendance of Iranian Minister of Education Mohammad Bathaei. “The school covers an area of 2,600 square meters, including a three-floor building,” said Abbas Keyvanlou, the head of Education Ministry’s office in Javadabad city, where the school is located. He added that the school was built with some $285,000 budget and consists of seven classrooms, two offices, laboratory, prayers room, and a multi-purpose sports hall. Sixty four out of total 100 students registered in the school are Afghan citizens in Javadabad. Schools in Javadabad serve over 4,600 students in 41 educational units, 2,400 of which are Afghan citizens of the region.
