Unicef Calls For End Of Gaza Conflict For The Children's Sake

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Bernama) -- The United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) has urged all sides to "come to their senses" and end the conflict in Gaza, especially for the sake of the children. Unicef executive director Anthony Lake said the UN body also hoped that humanitarian aid workers would be allowed to help those in need before more innocent lives were lost in the conflict. "What hope is there for these children and their societies if adults no longer live up to their responsibility to protect them? What are these children learning about how to behave when they are adults," he said in a statement issued in New York. A copy was sent to Bernama here Thursday. Lake noted that the ongoing conflict in Gaza had resulted in the deaths of at least 245 children. Furthermore, health workers were left to save lives with little water and electricity and insufficient medicines, he said. In response to the conflict in Gaza, Unicef Malaysia has launched the "Gaza Children's Appeal". Those who wish to donate in Malaysian Ringgit can visit www.helpunicef.my to make a secure online donation via credit card. They can also issue a crossed cheque or bank transfer payable to the UNITED NATIONS CHILDREN'S FUND-EMERGENCY. More information can be obtained by calling 03-20925812 or 03-20959154. --BERNAMA
