ARAU (Perlis, Malaysia), Dec 1 (Bernama) -- Researchers at the Centre of Excellence Geopolymer and Green Technology (CEGeoGTech) in Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) continued to shine internationally when they brought back five medals from two separate exhibitions recently. Findings of their research titled "Geopolymer Concrete For Sidewalk" which was successfully patented in the United States and Europe won the gold medal at the "Intellectual Property, Creativity and Innovation (INFOINVENT 2015)" exhibition held at the International Exhibition Center Moldexpo in Moldova from Nov 25 to 28. In a statement issued here Monday, UniMAP vice-chancellor Brig Gen Prof Emeritus Dr Kamarudin Hussin said at the exhibition, which focused on intellectual property and creativity, CEGeoGTech submitted two research products and was represented by its visiting professor who was a joint researcher in the project "Geopolymer Concrete For Sidewalk", Dr Andrei Victor Sandhu. "The success of the project was also due in part to the efforts of a student, Muhammad Faheem Mohd Tahir, beating more than 450 entries from around the world," he said. He added that another research project "Geopolymer Artificial Aggregate" conducted by a former UniMAP student, who is now a senior lecturer in UniMAP's Faculty of Engineering Technology (FTK), Dr Rafiza Abdul Razak, won the third place. Meanwhile, at the Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF) 2015 in Korea, two CEGeoGTech researchers won three silver medals through a senior FTK lecturer, Dr Zarina Yahya with her product "Palm Ash Geopolymer Brick". Dr Kamaruddin added that two other products won the silver medal - the Geopolymer Brick Machine Vol. 2 which was produced jointly with the King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACTS) in Saudi Arabia as well as the DR KMR Repair Materials. -- BERNAMA
