UniMAP'S Cooperation With Four Asian Universities Will Strengthen Networking

KANGAR (Perlis, Malaysia), July 23 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) believes that its cooperation with four other universities in Asia will strengthen knowledge networking among them at the regional level. Its vice-chancellor, Prof Dr Kamarudin Hussin said a memorandum of understanding was signed between UniMAP and the Petra Christian University (Indonesia), Dongseo University (Korea), Josai University (Japan) and Bangkok University (Thailand) last week in Surabaya, Indonesia. "These five universities have their own strengths in certain fields which can be tapped for mutual benefit," he said in a statement, here, Monday. Kamaruddin said he was happy that the four foreign universities responded to UniMAP's intention of forging cooperation in the academic field, research, and staff and student development over a five-year period. UniMAP also signed a declaration with the four universities to focus on the implementation of the "summer school" or vacation programme for students of the five universities involved. The declaration, among others, also covers taking turns as host for the programme and sending of students for participation. The declaration which was signed in conjunction with the three-week Asia Summer Programme (ASP) 2012 in Surabaya, is also aimed at boosting academic activities among the participating universities. A total of 143 students, including 21 from UniMAP, are taking part in ASP 2012 being held at the Petra Christian University from July 16 to Aug 3. -- BERNAMA
