United States And Its Arab Allies Are Waging Air Strikes Against The Islamic State (IS) In Syria

Washington / NINA / US Defense Ministry (Pentagon) announced that "the United States and Arab allies began air strikes against targets belonging to the Islamic State organization in Syria.". The spokeswoman for the Pentagon, John Kirby said in a brief statement that "the American army and the forces of allied countries launched an attack on terrorists in Syria using a combination of fighter jets and surface-to-air missiles of Tomahawk." Kirby said that "the process is ongoing, and we are not in a position where we can detect any additional information at this time." According to the official at the Pentagon, this strikes have targeted 20 locations for the (IS) including the headquarters of the organization in the Syrian city of Raqqa. The official noted that the Arab allied countries participated in the strikes. Kirby said that "the strikes came after a decision taken by the United States Central Command earlier in today in the light of the mandate granted by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces Barack Obama." The strikes comes as part of the extended military campaign authorized by President Barack Obama about two weeks ago in order to defeat the Islamic State (IS). / End
