Unrest in Thai Far South set to be reduced by half during Ramadan

THAI FAR SOUTH, June 8 (TNA) - The Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), Region 4 Front Command, has targeted to reduce violent incidents in the Thai Far South by about 50 per cent during the ongoing Ramadan fasting month of Muslims, compared to the same period last year. ISOC Region 4 Front Command Deputy Spokesman Colonel Yutthanam Phetmuang told journalists of the target on June 7, saying that Commanding General of the 4th Army Area Command Lieutenant General Wiwat Pathompak has ordered local security agencies to bring the situation under control and to meet the target. According to the deputy spokesman, violent unrest in the troubled southernmost Thai region a few days ago had no connection with a recent shift in state security forces there, but a retaliation against security officers who, in their latest moves, raided and successfully seized their eight hidden dens and weapons.
