UNWTO Commission for the Middle East Condemns Destruction of Arab Antiquities

Dubai, May 06 (QNA) - The 40th Meeting of UNWTO Commission for the Middle East condemned the destruction of some Arab antiquities, particularly in Iraq. It came upon a proposal made by Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi during the Commission meeting held last night on the sidelines of the Arabian Travel Market Exhibition in Dubai. In his intervention in the Ministerial Forum on intra-Arab Tourism, held yesterday under theme "Meeting the Challenge, Seizing the Opportunity", Al Mohannadi affirmed the need to provide protection to the Arab archaeological sites as an inherent part of the system of global tourism, calling for cessation of military acts against antiquities in the Arab region.
