US AMBASSADOR MS CAMPBELL PLAYS WITH SITTING VOLLEYBALL TEAM

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to Mongolia Ms Piper Anne Wind Campbell Thursday attended an exhibition game and presentation of volleyball sport in a secondary school in the city’s Khan-Uul district, the US Embassy website says. The event was organized by the Mongolian Sitting Volleyball Association. The aim was share with others the experiences of 11 women players and their coach on a Sports United exchange program in the United States. The group traveled to Oklahoma City in November. While there, they trained with the U.S.Sitting Volleyball team at the University of Central Oklahoma. They also took part in alternative activities like archery, golfing, an adaptive rowing and rock climbing sessions, cultural tours, visited a prosthetic development foundation, and interacted with American university students and youth throughout the exchange. While the athletes were in the United States, they learned about disability rights, the lessons of Title IX (which ensured equal treatment for women in sports), and the leadership skills that come with sports. Participants were introduced to the history of disability sport and disability rights during session with State Department representative Ann Cody. Participants were also instructed on using sport as a tool to positively impact girls and woman in their community. In addition to programmes related to sport, they group visited the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma where they assisted in boxing food items for those in need in the metro area. They also visited the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, went to a professional ice-hockey game, and experienced southern hospitality over dinner with area residents.
