US believed not to impose sanctions on Thailand

BANGKOK, July 28 (TNA) - In response to the United States' latest decision on maintaining Thailand in its lowest Tier 3 category of its annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report, released on July 27, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister General Tanasak Patimaprakorn says he believes that the US government should not impose economic sanctions on Thailand. General Tanasak stressed on Tuesday that Thailand has made significant efforts in combating human trafficking-related issues by including the issues on the national agenda and concretely finding solutions to the illegal Rohingya migration issue. General Tanasak insisted that the Thai government will continue addressing human trafficking-related issues in order to uphold both national and regional security. Earlier, Thai Prime Minister General Prayut chan-ocha told journalists that his government has done the best to solve human trafficking-related issues, which have been accumulated for a long time. The prime minister conceded, however, that more time is needed for Thailand to properly fix the issues, not only just one year. The US State Department publicly released this year's TIP report at around 9pm on Monday (Bangkok time). In June 2015, the US State Department placed Thailand on the lowest Tier 3 status, along with other countries, namely Iran and North Korea. (TNA)
