US confirms sound relations with Thailand

BANGKOK, June 20 (TNA) - The United States has confirmed sound long-time relations and friendship with Thailand and expressed Washington's understanding about the domestic situation. US Ambassador to Thailand Kristie A. Kenney made the confirmation in Bangkok on Friday, after her about an-hour-meeting with Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva. The US top envoy insisted that the 180-year-old diplomatic relations between Washington and Bangkok remain strong. The US ambassador also said Washington understands well that a coup staged by the army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) on May 22, 2014 represents a difficult transitional period in Thailand, stating the United States hopes that the Thai Kingdom can get through it and move forward. The US top envoy noted that US officials have met representatives of all parties in the Thai society, showing Washington's impartial stance, not taking side with any party. (TNA)
