US Embassy in Bangkok celebrates National Thai Language Day

BANGKOK, July 29 (TNA) - American staffs at the US Embassy in Bangkok have shared their favourite Thai words or phrases in a short video posted on the embassy's Facebook, www.facebook.com/usembassybkk, and on youtube, a world popular video sharing website, on the occasion of the National Thai Language Day, which falls on every July 29. US Ambassador to Thailand Kristie Kenney, herself, who is fluent in Thai speaking, opted to say the word “Mit-tra-pab”, which means "friendship". Other Thai terms of the English words or phrases, like US Marine Corp, Responsibility, Support, Environment, President, Culture, Museum, University and Thai dishes, were then spoken out in the short video clip by other American diplomatic staffs at the US Embassy to Thailand in honour of the National Thai Language Day. One of the American diplomatic officials even spoke out the full ceremonial name of Bangkok, which has been shortened to “Krung Thep Maha Nakhon”. The US top envoy told journalists that all US diplomatic staffs are required to learn the Thai language before observing their duties in Thailand. (TNA)
