US Pacific commander visits Thailand

BANGKOK, December 6 (TNA) - Visiting US Pacific Commander Admiral Sammuel J. Locklear paid a courtesy call on Thai Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in Bangkok on Friday morning. US Ambassador to Thailand Kristie A Kenney brought Admiral Sammuel J Locklear to meet the Thai prime minister. The US Pacific Commander is in Thailand to join a royal ceremony to celebrate the 86th birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Admiral Locklear told journalists after his meeting with the Thai prime minister that he was honored to attend the splendid royal ceremony, and that Thailand and the United States have been long-standing friends and will carry on their solid cooperation. The US Ambassador said, meanwhile, that the United States has closely monitored the situation in Thailand and will maintain its friendship with the Thai Kingdom. The US top envoy expressed her hope that Thailand will solve domestic problems through negotiations to sustain national peace. (TNA)
