US proposes public education on democracy

BANGKOK, January 29 (TNA) - US Ambassador in Bangkok H.E. Glyn Davies has proposed that the Thai government educate people on democracy prior to the country's referendum on new Charter draft and the new general election, tentatively set in 2017. The US top envoy raised the proposal during his meeting with Thai Minister Attached to the Prime Minister's Office ML Panadda Diskul at Bangkok's Government House on Friday. The US ambassador told journalists after the meeting that he discussed with the Thai minister on progress in the Thai government's implementation of a roadmap on national reforms toward the new general election. The US top envoy said he hoped the general election in Thailand would happen as scheduled in the roadmap, mentioning that he would give his views on the Kingdom's new Constitution draft after he has studied its details. During the meeting, the Thai minister revealed, he and the US top envoy did not discuss any human right issue. (TNA)
