U.S. Senate Panel OKs Kennedy as Envoy to Japan

Washington, Sept. 30 (Jiji Press)--The Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Monday unanimously approved the nomination of Caroline Kennedy as new U.S. ambassador to Japan. The vote on the appointment was held one day earlier than initially planned so that the committee can handle it together with bills that need to be processed by the end of September. After confirmation by the full Senate later, Kennedy, 55, is expected to take office by the end of October. END
