Van Gogh Museum launches Relievo Collection in Dubai tonight

DUBAI, 26th February, 2015 (WAM) -- In a Middle East exclusive, The Van Gogh Museum Relievo Collection will be officially launched at a private, invitation only event at Fairmont The Palm tonight. The event will be attended by the cream of the UAE’s artistic, financial and social community, as Axel Rüger, Director of the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam and Willem Van Gogh, the great grandnephew of Vincent van Gogh and ambassador for the museum, host the regional launch event this evening. The Van Gogh Museum Relievos are a collection of high grade, limited edition 3D reproductions of some of Vincent van Gogh’s most celebrated works. The Van Gogh Museum Relievo Collection consists of nine works: Almond blossom (1890), Sunflowers (1889), The harvest (1888), Wheatfield under thunderclouds (1890) and Boulevard de Clichy (1887) The bedroom (1888), Undergrowth (1889), Fishing boats on the beach (1888), Landscape at twilight (1890). Willem Van Gogh said, "This collection very much represents a re-imagination of the spirit of my great grand-uncle. He wrote about his desire to share his art with as many people as possible and hoped that in future, the means might be available to do so. The Relievo Collection is very much in line with that sentiment." Vincent Van Gogh is known as one of the world’s pre-eminent post-impressionists, and this year marks the 125th anniversary of his death. Axel Rüger, Director of the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, added, "The Van Gogh Museum aims to make the life and work of Vincent van Gogh accessible to as many people as possible in order to enrich and inspire them. 125 years after his death, Vincent van Gogh inspires millions of people around the world - we receive 1.6 million visitors per year at the Van Gogh Museum alone. He is considered to be one of the greatest artist of all time and as such touches the harts off all generations. As a cultural entrepreneur, the Van Gogh Museum is continually searching for new markets, target groups and sources of revenue. The museum considers the Van Gogh Museum Relievo Collection to be premium products, in addition to all other products and activities that are continuously developed in order to generate revenues. Since our museum was set up 40 years ago, we have noticed a growing worldwide interest in Vincent van Gogh's work. Van Gogh's paintings are very popular, but unaffordable. Neither do they often come up for sale. Lovers of Van Gogh's work may perceive the Relievos to be a great option next to the original work of art." The public exhibition will open on the 26th February 2015 at Fairmont The Palm, with a series of events and will be open to the general public throughout March. The Van Gogh Museum Relievo Collection will be available for purchase at Dh125,000 per piece. "It is a great honour to host the Van Gogh Museum Relievo Collection in Dubai," says Mark Sawkins, General Manager, Fairmont The Palm. "This is a wonderful opportunity for new audiences and generations to be inspired by Van Gogh, and what better place than on the iconic Palm Jumeirah." To complement the exhibition, Fairmont The Palm will offer a Van Gogh themed afternoon tea experience throughout the month of March in the award-winning Mashrabiya Lounge, where the Relievo Collection masterpieces will be on display. – Emirates News Agency, WAM – http://www.wam.ae/en/news/general/1395277104046.html
