Vegetarian Fest in Phuket lively on 2nd day

PHUKET, Oct 2 (TNA) - The second day of Thailand’s nine-day Vegetarian Festival in the southern province of Phuket is very lively with a variety of activities attracting both local and foreign tourists. The day began with street processions, in which dozens of local devotees of gods performed various rituals of self-mutilation. Young devotees were seen piercing their cheeks swords, knives, and other sharp items. Despite some rains this morning, the festive parades were reportedly well received by both Thai and foreign tourists, particularly from China. This year’s Vegetarian Festival in Phuket runs from October 1-9. (TNA)
