Vegetarian festival kicks off across Thailand

BANGKOK, October 15 (TNA) - The 2012 vegetarian festival has kicked off across Thailand with active trade of vegetarian food and other relevant activities. In Songkhla Province in the Thai South, a main road, the Supasarn Rangsan Road, in the Hat Yai Municipality has been closed nearly one kilometre to become a vegetarian food route, with stalls actively selling vegetarian food to local consumers and international visitors participating in the vegetarian festival. Other venues for the 10-day vegetarian festival in Hat Yai include a recreation park of a local friendship and unity foundation, named the Tong Sia Siang Teung Foundation, and local vegetarian cafeterias and shrines. In Bangkok and other provinces across the country, a number of people, mostly those of Chinese origin and dressed in white, are also participating in the 10-day vegetarian festival by taking vegetarian food and making merits.
