Vice President: Iran ranks 9th in green house gases emission,

Tehran, Nov 14, IRNA - Vice-President and Head of the Department of Environment Masoomeh Ebtekar said Iran ranked 9th in the world in emitting green house gases, adding that Iran's economy and environment are suffering from false pattern of energy consumption. Speaking as the representative of the government in agreement with Paris Agreement in Majlis (Parliament) debate, Ebtekar said that Iran has been suffering from false pattern of consumption and we are using energy 9 times more than Europe which results in air pollution. Ebtekar reiterated that the government has approved the program to reduce the amount of carbon and some plans have been presented to decrease energy intensity (EI), green house gases and air pollution. She emphasized rising temperature, drought and special weather condition in Iran as one of the reasons in climate change, reiterating that after joining the agreement we would be able to compensate for damage and preserve wetlands and forests. Ebtekar noted that Iran is the 106th country in the world to Paris agreement. One-hundred and 49 majlis deputies, out of 206 present, voted in favor of the Paris Agreement while six others voted against and eight more abstained. The Paris Agreement was adopted on 12 December 2015 at the twenty-first session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Paris from 30 November to 13 December 2015. The agreement entered into force on 4 Nov 2016. More than 190 signatories of the global deal have agreed accordingly to help address the global climate changes and the unwanted effects caused by these changes by their financial and technological support. 1378/IRNA
