Vice President Meets Qatari Foreign Minister

BAGHDAD / NINA / Vice President, Iyad Allawi said the visiting of Qatari Foreign Minister to Iraq is a step in the right direction to enhance Arab solidarity to facing common challenges of terrorism and extremism. A statement by his press office cited today, "Allawi met yesterday evening in his office in Baghdad the Qatari Foreign Minister Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah, where he stressed the importance of reopening the Qatari Embassy in Baghdad, calling for the development of relations between the two brotherly countries." The statement added, "The two sides reviewed the positive results to the visit of the Vice President to Qatar through his participation in the work of Doha Forum, and the positive role that could be played by Qatar in achieving national reconciliation among Iraqi factions." Allawi said, "The current situation in Iraq requires unification efforts and capabilities against terrorism because victory in the battle is primarily a political victory before the military, and it is important to maintain the sustainability of the victory against the forces of extremism and terrorism."
