Vietnam, China to conduct joint crackdown on human trafficking

HCM City, June 28 (VNA) – Police of Vietnam and China will conduct a joint special operation to combat human trafficking along the shared border from July 1 to September 30, heard a conference on June 27. The conference was co-held in Ho Chi Minh City by the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security’s Criminal Police Department and the Chinese Ministry of Public Security’s Criminal Investigation Department. According to reports delivered at the event, human traffickers have taken advantage of good ties between Vietnam and China and the two nations’ open policies as well as their personal relations along the shared border to carry out crimes. Vietnamese authorities have discovered about 400 cases of human trafficking every year, and in most of the cases, people have been sold to China. It is anticipated that cross-border human trafficking from Vietnam to China will increase in the time ahead, especially through illegal marriages, forced labour, women trafficking and children kidnapping. Police of the two nations discussed the contents of their joint operation and agreed to maintain a close coordination to fight human trafficking in each country.-VNA
