Vietnam to support Thailand in all issues

BANGKOK, January 15 (TNA) - Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung says that Vietnam will support Thailand in all issues. Thai Defence Ministry Spokesman Colonel Kongcheep Tantrawanit told journalists in Bangkok on Thursday that the Vietnamese prime minister made the pledge during his meeting in Hanoi with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwon, who has been on a three-day official visit to Vietnam from January 13-15. During the meeting, the spokesman stated, General Prawit mentioned security cooperation between the Thai and Vietnamese Defence Ministries and asked the Vietnamese prime minister to support Thai investors in Vietnam and jointly develop agricultural products for mutual export benefits. The spokesman revealed that General Prawit also asked Vietnam to support Thailand's attempt to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC)from 2017-2018. According to the spokesman, the Vietnamese prime minister responded positively and promised to support Thailand in all issues. The spokseman noted that the Thai deputy prime minister also met Vietnamese Minister of National Defense General Phung Quang Thanh to discuss security and military cooperation between Bangkok and Hanoi, during which the Thai deputy premier proposed that both sides form a joint working group to realize the cooperation. Besides, the Thai deputy prime minister proposed joint sea patrols to ensure security and safety for fishery by people of both countries. The Vietnamese minister of national defense agreed with the proposals, including the setting up of a joint working group, comprising agencies concerned of both countries, tasked with realizing the cooperation and solving problems, if any, based on humanitarian principles. The Vietnamese minister also thanked Thailand for good care of Vietnamese migrants and workers. (TNA)
