Vietnam, Thailand agree on expanding cross-border land transportation

BANGKOK, December 20 (TNA) - Vietnam and Thailand have agreed on expanding cross-border land transportation to facilitate growing travelling of people of the two countries and international tourists, as well as on fishing cooperation. The agreement was reached on Saturday by Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Tan Dung during their discussion on the sidelines of the 5th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit, held in Bangkok from December 19-20. The Thai prime minister told journalists that under the agreement, both countries will further develop roads, customs checkpoints and regulations to boost cross-border travels and tourism between the two neighbouring countries, saying that he welcomes Hanoi's decision on giving the green light for buses to run between the two countries. Regarding to the agreed fishing cooperation, designed for preventing illegal fishing, the Thai prime minister revealed that concerned authorities of both countries will offer legal knowledge to fishermen and operators so that they would not violate territorial waters of each other country. According to the Thai premier, concerned government agencies will be ordered to register illegal Vietnamese workers in Thailand so that they become legalised and continue working in the Kingdom. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese prime minister confirmed the Vietnamese government's readiness to hold the third informal meeting between the Thai and Vietnamese Cabinets at an appropriate time. (TNA)
