Vietnamese fishermen arrested for illegal fishing in Thai waters

BANGKOK, September 28 (TNA) - A total of 50 Vietnamese fishermen have been arrested with boats for illegal fishing in Thai waters. Officers from the Second Naval Area Command arrested the Vietnamese crewmen on six Vietnamese fishing boats for illegally fishing off Nakhon Si Thammarat province on Saturday. The squid fishing boats were seized 12 nautical miles north of Koh Kra Island. The fishermen were taken to the Second Naval Area Command in Songkhla province, received foods and were repatriated. It was the second arrest of illegal fishermen from Vietnam this month. The first arrest took place on September 5 when 17 crewmen were apprehended on three fishing boats. Local officials said the Thai Navy continues to actively patrol the Thai waters due to the frequent illegal entries of Vietnamese fishermen. (TNA)
